At the end of next month, two rare first edition copies of Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings are set to go up for auction by Chiswick Auctions.
The Hobbit, which is in excellent condition, is likely to sell for between £1,000-£1,500 ($1300-$1,900), while a good condition of The Lord of the Rings is valued slightly higher at £2,000-£3,000 ($2,600-$3,900).
Says Nicholas Worskett of the Auctions’ book department: “It is particularly exciting to be able to offer a first edition of such a well-loved work, of which only 1,500 were printed. Such is the popularity of Tolkien’s repertoire, that we expect a huge wave of interest.”
Potential buyers have until September 28 to start saving up for these editions!
