While this set looks incredible and would be a must-have for any extreme collector, the price tag is simply too high for me. Some of the extra features are nice, but I don’t think they warrant a $730 price jump from the theatrical set. It would be nice if a third version became available, at least a boxed set of the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit extended editions. Unfortunately, I’ll be sitting this one out, as I didn’t like the Hobbit films enough to even buy the original Blu-ray films. But for the collector with lots of money burning a hole in their pocket, this seems like a good purchase. If it’s really a “limited” edition set, then its value will only increase over time.
Several folks have already weighed in over on Twitter; what do you think of the $800 price tag? What other item(s) would you like to see included for such a high value? More importantly, which set will you be purchasing?
